Commercial demand for microgravity drug discovery accelerates as Exobiosphere and Voyager add two missions to the ISS

Two additional screening campaigns for pharmaceutical and biotech organizations signal accelerating commercial demand for microgravity research

DENVER and HOUSTON – September 24, 2026 /Business Wire/ – Voyager Technologies (NYSE: VOYG) and Exobiosphere today announced two additional research campaigns aboard the International Space Station, expanding an agreement that is turning commercial biotech research in microgravity into a recurring, schedulable service rather than a one-off opportunity.

Exobiosphere’s Orbital High-Throughput Screening in Microgravity (OHTS) platform, a mid-deck-locker-class system for automated drug screening, is scheduled for installation aboard the ISS in April 2027. These two new campaigns follow in quick succession: the first launching on an ISS Program Commercial Resupply Services mission in June 2027, the second in the August–September 2027 timeframe. The two customers span different institutions and different scientific objectives, all running on the same platform and the same station. Voyager Europe will be responsible for mission management under the companies’ existing master services agreement.

"Every one of these missions matters to the researchers behind it, and together they tell us something important about where this industry is heading," said Matt Magaña, president of Space, Defense and National Security, Voyager. "When multiple organizations with unrelated science cases book time on the same orbital platform inside a single year, that is a healthy market behaving as it should. Commercial research in low-Earth orbit is becoming something customers plan around, and we intend to make that access routine."

OHTS is designed to be resupplied. Samples, test compounds and consumables are exchanged between campaigns, and the science configuration is adapted to each investigation. A single platform in orbit can therefore support a sequence of independent research programs, with each campaign informed by the findings of the one before it. Every campaign runs thousands of experiments on standardized well plates, each one mirrored by an identical control on the ground — so every orbital result arrives with the Earth comparison that makes it interpretable. Across successive campaigns, that produces something space biology has not had before: a growing, directly comparable body of actionable data.

"The questions I get from many pharma and biotech teams are the same: what do I actually get back?" said Kyle Acierno, Chief Executive Officer of Exobiosphere. "With OHTS, the answer is structured data — thousands of experiments per campaign, standardized, paired with matched ground controls, and generated in a way that it can be used to train models, support new IP and feed real discovery programs. That's what makes orbital research worth putting on a roadmap rather than in a research budget line."

Under the agreements, Voyager Europe provides program management, ISS mission integration and mission provisioning for each campaign, including safety and verification to NASA Safety Review standards, manifesting on ISS Program Commercial Resupply Services vehicles, coordination of on-orbit operations and the return of samples to Earth. Work is performed with Voyager’s affiliate Nanoracks LLC d/b/a Voyager Space Solutions, which handles final payload processing, NASA-required pre-flight preparations and console operations from its Houston-area facility.

“This cadence is only possible because of NASA, the ISS Program and the safety and integration teams we work alongside who turn scientific ambitions into launch dates,” said Mattia Pianorsi, managing director of Voyager Europe. “Our job is to make that process predictable enough that a research organization can plan a program around it, and our teams in Torino and Houston are proving that it can be done repeatedly.”

The new campaigns reinforce Voyager’s track record of facilitating access to low-Earth orbit and advance Exobiosphere’s mission to extend and improve life on Earth and in space through microgravity research.
