Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Product Development Engineer to lead the design, development, and scale-up of our next-generation high-throughput devices. This role is critical to bringing our prototype into robust, manufacturable, and reliable production-ready systems.
You will own the technical development process from early prototypes through pilot builds and manufacturing transfer, working closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical design, electronics, software, and quality/regulatory.
Responsibilities
Device Design Leadership: Lead the design and engineering of high-throughput systems and components, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Prototype Iteration: Translate early research concepts into functional prototypes, conduct testing, and drive design refinement.
Manufacturing Scale-Up: Develop processes for pilot production, coordinate with contract manufacturers, and support design transfer activities.
System Integration: Collaborate with firmware, software, and assay development teams to ensure seamless system-level performance.
Design for Quality & Compliance: Work within ISO and IEC frameworks to ensure compliance with medical device design controls.
Documentation & Risk Management: Generate engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, BOMs), perform DFMEAs, and support verification/validation testing.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve cost, reliability, throughput, and user experience during scale-up.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
5+ years of experience in product development for life sciences tools, diagnostics, or medical devices.
Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems, precision assemblies, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
Experience with pilot builds, process development, and manufacturing transfer (ideally with CM partners).
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and PDM systems.
Strong understanding of engineering documentation, tolerancing (GD&T), and risk management practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with automation systems, high-throughput instrumentation, or fluidics-based devices.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices.
Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing methods.
Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects from concept through production.
