Payload Systems Engineering Intern
Location: House of BioHealth, Luxembourg
Type: Full time
Role Overview
Exobiosphere is seeking a detail-driven Payload Systems Engineering Intern to support the Orbital High-Throughput System (OHTS)—an automated microgravity payload being prepared for flight on low Earth orbit platforms.
The intern will work directly with the payload systems engineer on the systems engineering backbone of the payload: requirements traceability, verification evidence, materials and safety compliance, and interface documentation. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to perform hands-on testing of payload hardware, including payload characterization testing and in support of scientific testing using live cell and organoid samples.
This is a documentation- and analysis-heavy role at the point where biology, hardware, and spaceflight safety requirements meet. It suits someone who enjoys reading a standard closely, finding the gap nobody else noticed, and leaving behind a record that survives external review.
The successful candidate will see how a real payload is cleared for flight, working against live customer milestones alongside our engineering, science, and AIT teams and external partners.
Responsibilities
Requirements & Verification:
Maintain traceability between customer and internal requirement sets.
Draft and format verification documentation, and track verification closure across subsystems and assemble evidence packages for review.
Support materials and safety compliance documentation, including hazard assessments and safety data package submissions.
Hardware & Science Testing:
Support payload characterization testing.
Assist the science and AIT teams during integrated testing with live biological samples.
Collaboration & Program Support
Prepare materials and action-item tracking for internal technical reviews.
Contribute to improvement of internal systems engineering templates and working practices.
Requirements
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in aerospace, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
Strong technical writing in English — precise and consistent over long documents.
Comfortable reading and interpreting technical standards, specifications, and requirement sets.
The discipline to keep a large document set internally consistent.
Able to work independently and raise problems early.
Willing to work hands-on in laboratory and hardware integration environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to requirements management, verification and validation, or configuration management.
Laboratory experience with cell culture, organoid work, or aseptic technique.
Hands-on hardware testing, integration, or test procedure experience.
